Everyday & Traditional Uses

A staple in Southern-style cooked greens, mustard greens can be simmered with smoked turkey or other seasonings, sautéed with garlic and onions, added to soups and stews, or mixed with collards and turnip greens. Younger leaves can also be used fresh when a peppery bite is wanted.

Fall & Cold Tolerance

Mustard greens are very well suited to fall growing and established plants tolerate light frost. Brief freezes into the upper 20s°F may be tolerated, although severe or prolonged freezes can damage foliage. Cooler temperatures can also mellow some of the sharpness of the leaves.

Quick Growing Tips

Plant in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-draining soil. Keep evenly watered for tender leaves. Harvest the larger outer leaves as needed while leaving the center growing point intact for continued production.
